“United Road to Recovery” campaign targets needy families
BHS has made a significant contribution to a new campaign by the United Way of Lane County aimed at raising money for emergency assistance agencies that have been overwhelmed with the needs of families struggling financially during the current recession.
“We all feel fortunate that we are doing well as a company and our employees are prospering during a very difficult economic period,” said BHS President Steve Miller, announcing the company’s contribution to the United Road to Recovery program. “This community is going through a difficult time and when companies struggle, people struggle.” The company’s contribution is part of an ongoing effort at BHS to support local charities and programs.
United Way is hoping to raise $330,000 this year to distribute to groups and agencies that help needy children and their parents and providing emergency aid to the homeless. “Our hope is to help stabilize these families as they seek to rebuild their lives and return to independence,” United Way representatives said in a press release about the program.
The BHS contribution came through its affiliation with the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce.
BHS was recently selected by Lane Metro Partnership to receive the Lane Council of Governments Regional Award of Merit for Economic Enhancement for 2009.
This award is given to successful Lane County businesses that demonstrate a commitment to the community, their employees, customers and industries, the partnership said.
