ReCommunity Opens 35th Recycling Facility
BHS designed, manufactured and installed MRF caps $15 million investment
WILMINGTON, Del. – August 29, 2013 — ReCommunity announced today that it has selected Eugene, Oregon-based Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) to design, manufacture and install a new materials recovery system for its ReCommunity Delaware facility. The materials recovery facility (MRF) is expected to be fully operational by July 2013, with system installation scheduled to begin February 2013.
“ReCommunity won out over all other proposals because of its recycling expertise and ability to bring the most productive recovery technology to Delaware,” says Pat Canzano, CEO of Delaware Solid Waste Authority.
The announcement by ReCommunity, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., is a significant step in bringing leading-edge recovery technology to Delaware. Once complete, the new system will process 35 tons of recyclables per hour. This includes old newspapers, mixed paper, cardboard, plastic containers, beverage cartons, steel, aluminum and glass to support the State of Delaware’s recent passage of their Universal Recycling law.
“We are committed to leading the Recovery Revolution™ for forward-thinking communities by repositioning waste as a strategic community resource instead of a growing liability,” says Sean Duffy, ReCommunity president and COO. “Our ability to create significant positive gains for our community partners hinges on leveraging world-class operational and design expertise for our facilities.”
The state-of-the-art system includes advanced automated sorting capabilities that allow identification, separation and recovery of recyclables. Specifically, BHS will design, manufacture and install its patented screening, optical, air and controls technology to recover more than 95 percent of available recyclables.
“It is an honor to be chosen to construct this facility for ReCommunity, a company that is a clear and innovative leader in the recycling industry”, says Steve Miller, CEO of BHS. “ReCommunity has the vision of bringing this world-class facility to Delaware, and we are dedicated to helping make that vision a reality.”
“Delaware is a gleaming example of ReCommunity’s operational expertise and knowledge coupled with BHS’s design flexibility and experience,” Duffy adds. “The technology used in this facility will serve the Delaware community for years to come.”
